As the branch cannot bear fruit by itself, unless it abides in the vine, neither can you, unless you abide in me.
"Abide in me, and I in you." A beautiful way of revealing the fact that God is always within us, we just have to open our hearts to that reality...what an amazing thing that happens when we do :) Let's abide in God today and bear some fruit!

Thanks for reminding me of these good verses. I like Clement of Alexandria's description of prayer as "keeping company with God," and this always centers me when I am tempted to be analytical about what it truly means to "abide." Then, I can relax once again and say, "Hi, God. How are you? Welcome to my day!" :-)
ReplyDeleteI like that, "keeping company with God"...that's a good way of putting it :) Yeah, sometimes I can get analytical about it too ;) I've learned over time that simplicity is really helpful when it comes to prayer. I think sometimes I think about things too much, when I should rely less on my rambling mind to guide me to Christ for answers and more on my seeking heart.

This is the verse that my daughter and I read for devotion this morning. I explained to her that those who abide in Christ (and whose words abide in them)could safely trust that their prayers would bear much fruit.
